1951 was a very bad year for the fishing community of Monterey Bay, in Old California. Cannery Row collapsed because the anchovies did not appear as they had every year since time immortal. It became common for folks to order their pizza without anchovies. But it was a very good year for Huck, because that was the year that he was born in Santa Cruz California, beside the beautiful Montery Bay. And he doesn’t like anchovies on his pizza anyway. So anyway, Huck's been getting antsy to find old friends from days gone by. Bob Huck moved with his folks from San Francisco to Pomona, California in 1956 and attended Arroyo Elementary School, John Marshall Jr. High School and Ganesha Senior High School through the 10th grade, enjoying the activities of the Cub Scouts and then the US Naval Sea Cadets and spending much of his time at the slot car tracks, shooting marbles, delivering papers for The Progress Bulletin , seeing The Beatles in 1964 and hanging out at the The Folk Music Center in Clarmont, after which the Hucks moved to South Pasadena where he attended South Pasadena High School from 1967, the summer of love, until 1969. After high school Huck moved to Pasadena, working as a house painter and hitch hiking around the northwest. Ask about the time he met Charlie Manson at the Spahn Ranch in 1969. Or when martial law was imposed on Yosemite National Park in July, 1970. Huck was there and loves to tell stories about his adventures. Hangin' out at Wheeler's Ranch and Morningstar Commune in Sonoma County while working on an apple farm in Graton in 1970. All the while with his beloved Harmony guitar in tow. Ah, the good old days. Such good times. Gas was 20 cents. Huck moved to Humboldt County in 1971, working on Salmon fishing boats, pushing fish and crabs around at Eureka Fisheries in Field's Landing and working as a custodian at Humboldt State University for twenty years. Raising a family, going camping, poking around the environs on motorcycles and 4x4s, and playing old time fiddle tunes on fiddle and guitar. Currently living in Old Town Eureka, Huck would love to connect with old chums from days gone by. You can email Huck at bobhuck.com.
